at a glance

sampaio is a district of rio de janeiro located in the north zone, within the region of méier. it is bordered by cities, eng. novo, jacaré, riachuelo and vila isabel.  the neighborhood of sampaio received its name in honor of military leader colonel sampaio, which also is the name of the local railway station.

sampaio, along with the neighboring district of riachuelo, originally belonged to eng. novo, which was a large farmland created by a group of landowners. following the decline of the sugarcane trade, that land was allocated for the development of urban areas within the region.

one local feature in which the community of sampaio takes pride is the sampaio oylmpic village. the olympic village has been an integral part of the community since the year 2000, offering residents senior fitness classes, youth workshops and even medical assistance in the form of a dental program. arrow-back      arrow-forward
