at a glance

The community began to form in 1931, at which time there was only one place to retrieve clean water, known as Três Bicas, or 'Three Sprouts'. One of the most iconic buildings in the neighborhood is the Paróquia São Sebastião de Parada de Lucas, or the'Parada de Lucas Saint Sebastian Parish', which is a chapel with a small bell tower.

The neighborhood also boasts the culturally significant and famous samba school, Unidos de Lucas, which was first formed in 1966, and is also referred to as Galo de Ouro da Leopoldinha, or 'Leopoldina's Golden Rooster', due to its impressive displays.

The neighborhood is also rich in industry, and some of its land to the north is used by the Brazilian Navy and the Brazilian Marines. Local business in the region consists primarily of bars and grocery stores. arrow-back      arrow-forward
