organizations such as AfroReggae work to offer a better quality of life to the local populace and to discourage marginalized citizens from turning to crime. these organizations offer: digital workshops, classes in theater, capoeira, African dance, percussion and circus, as well as psychological and social care. Homage was famously paid to the neighborhood by the singer, Ed Motta, in his song 'Parada de Lucas', released in 1988.
