Presented by the  Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, the study O CONTEXTO DA PRODUÇÃO DE UM OBJETO GEOGRÁFICO NA CIDADE DO RIO DE JANEIRO E SUA CENTRALIDADE: O ESTÁDIO DE SÃO JANUÁRIO - The context of the production of a geographical object in the city of Rio de Janeiro and its centrality: The stadium of Saint Januário by Marcelo da Cunha Matos, discusses how football has become an intrinsic part of the history of the country. This geographical study, encompassing a wide field of research, provides the means to understand how this beautiful sport is capable of leaving visible marks on space, creating a physical and symbolic centrality. Since the mid-16th Century, the introduction of practical sports to Rio de Janeiro has had effects on the socio-spatial dynamic of the city, since it enabled an increase in the renewed use of public spaces in the city and, consequently, increased participation in sports, influenced also by European customs. arrow-back      arrow-forward
