at a glance

vicente de carvalho is located in zona norte (north zone) of rio de janeiro, in the administrative region of iraja. it is situated alongside the neighborhoods irajá, vaz lobo, cavalcanti, tomás coelho, vila cosmos and vila da penha.  

the neighborhood was originally named in recognition of a local farmer, named vincente de carvalho. when the railroad rio d'ouro was built throughout the region in 1883, settlements began to flourish in the neighborhood vicente de carvalho.

nowadays, the green line metrô travels through vincente de carvalho, allowing commuters access to and from this mainly residential neighborhood. many residents travel outside of vicente de carvalho to adjacent neighborhoods for work and shopping.
