Cavalcanti is a neighborhood located in the north zone (zona norte), one of rio de janeiro three zones. the bairro (neighborhood) borders the communities of madureira, engenheiro leal, and cascadura in the west, quintino bocaiúvaa and piedadee to the south, tomás coelhoo to the East, and vicente de carvalhoo and vaz loboo to the north.

cavalcanti covers a relatively  small area, however it offers a truly varied landscape. It is situated near a trio of green hills: Dendê, Serrinha and Juramento, and contains a wide urban area to the south of these peaks, clustered around the railroad.  Morro do Urubu, or 'Urubu Hill', is situated a little beyond Cavalcanti's southern border, where the community Complexo do Urubu, or 'Urubu Complex', is located.
