'engenheiro leal', or 'loyal engineer in english is a neighborhood in the north zone  of rio de janeiro. it was named after the former supervisor and engineer of the estrada de ferro central do brasil (the e. f. brazilian railway). the area and train line were first develop in 1908.

engenheiro leal is a small commercial and residential area located within the madureira administrative region. bordering towns include cascadura, cavalcanti and madureira. many of its major establishments are located on its main street rua iguaçu.
