at a glance

freguesia is one of 14 neighborhoods on the ilha do governador in the north zone of rio de janeiro. it shares a border with bancários and is otherwise geographically isolated on the northeastern coast of the island.

in the north lies the naval military base, occupying approximately 55 percent of the area, which is surrounded by forested hills and green vegetation. this region is known as the campo da ilha, it covers three battalions from humaita, riachuelo, paissandu installed in 1948.

freguesia hosts two small beaches - praia da freguesia and praia da guanabara, which is the location of three out of the four access points to guanabara bay. the neighborhood's shipyard, installed in the 1960s, adds to its' uniqueness.
