In this interplay, the various and intricate relationships which connect the favela to the land, the informal city to formal city, become evident. From the first pages, in which a trip is made through the roads and squares of Vigário, the reader feels as though they are entering a universe of individual and collective experiences in which the diverse dimensions of emotional, political, social and economic life are articulated through a complex and often contradictory picture, which is nevertheless always deeply human. Without falling into the trap of painting a too romantic image or running away from the topic of violence, the work is, without a doubt, of great significance in the construction of a city in which dialogue and collaboration replace the discrimination and clashes which are the scourge of contemporary urban life... |
