Rio de Janeiro, which has long suffered from a shortage of urban interventions on a systemic scale, has recently, due to its commitment to host major sporting events, had the opportunity to improve the aspect of its infrastructure that is most outdated, particularly compared to cities in developed countries, and one that has a major influence on its inhabitants - transportation. Mobility and accessibility are confused semantically but their joint realization has become the premise of the construction of road corridors, aimed at expanding access to the entire network of transportation and allowing people to travel to all relevant points of the city. In particular, the corridor known as TransCarioca emerged as the first north-south connection in the city, linking two major economic extremes inside metropolitan boundaries, Barra da Tijuca and Tom Jobim International Airport. Several densely populated areas with intense economic activity, which the corridor will pass through, are due to undergo substantial transformations, in particular the central area of the Taquara district. This area will be this paper's focus due to successive interventions which have caused wide-scale traffic changes. |
