The interior is characterized by detailed  decorations and rich ornaments such as paintings, mirrors and chandeliers lining the walls and ceilings.

Since 1960, when Federal Government was relocated to Brasilia, the building has been home to the Museu da República, which provides a historical journey through Brazilian Government, gathering and exhibiting objects linked to the history of the Brazilian Republic.

It hosts exhibitions and concerts, as well as preserving the room used by Vargas leading up to his death, which contains the gun he used to shoot himself in that very spot. there is also a bookstore and bar-café on site.  arrow-back      arrow-forward
