decommissioned as a fort since 1965, it houses the centro de estudos de pessoal do exército brasileiro (study center of brazilian army staff) - the center provides officers with language and technical courses. the fort is open to the public for tours - visitors also have the opportunity to participate in ecology walk in a protected atlantic forest conservation area. in fact, a pleasant and picturesque ecological trail leads to the Fort, ascending a cobblestone lane which passes through the magnificent trees and intriguing woodland creatures of the Atlantic Forest. The short trail leading up to the Fort is a family favorite, because of the rich insight it provides into the military history of the city, as well as its pleasant natural scenery, fresh air and magnificent views. |
