at a glance

The Z-13 fishing colony was first founded in 1923, with its headquarters situated at Posto 6 of Copacabana, also known as arpoador.

This had been a favorite spot amongst fishermen since long before 1923, a fact attested to by the existence of a number of picturesque black and white photos depicting fishing activities in the region dating back to the 19th century.

For generations, fishermen have set sail before sunrise, covering the waters between urca and recreio, to return with their fresh fish between 8 and 10 am.

Fish are mounted on counter-tops in the shade of the Almond trees to form a small market, and residents and visitors travel from across the city in search of the most sumptuous and fresh ware.   arrow-back     arrow-forward
