getting to catete is quite easy from practically anywhere in town - just taking the metrô and getting off at the catete station, takes right next to the museum.

Presented by the Prefeitura do Rio de Janeiro, the study Área de proteção do ambiente cultural: Catete,(Protection of a cultural area: Catete),  analyzes how The neighborhoods of Catete, Glória and Flamengo are urban  areas of fundamental interest for the study of the cultural heritage of the city of Rio de Janeiro and of Brazil.

Since the beginning of the urbanization of the city, in the second half of the 16th Century, these territories made up the paths to the lands of the sugar mills in the area today known as zona sul - during the 18th Century, these routes took on a role of major importance for accessing established fortifications for defense against foreign invasion; during the 19th Century, the areas became the location for the establishment of pleasant and noble farms; with the advent of the Republic, everything began to rotate around the political decisions that ruled the country.  arrow-back      arrow-forward
