at a glance

usina is an unofficial neighborhood of rio de janeiro, located in the zona norte (north zone) of the city, close to alto da boa vista, near tijuca - it is considered a residential neighborhood, with many tree-lined streets and beautiful homes, as well as a number of commercial establishments and new businesses.

the bairro (neighborhood) carries a significant amount of history, dating back to the 19th century - in 1898, the estrada de ferro da tijuca was created, the second railway line to be fueled by electricity in the city (the first travelled from largo da carioca to largo do machado), and the electricity was generated from a thermoelectric plant in tijuca, which is where the name usina (plant) originated. arrow-back     arrow-forward
