amazonian cuisine is the generic term used to describe foods or the way of preparing food from the countries that make up the amazon rain forest, particularly brazil, colombia, peru, and to a lesser extent ecuador, venezuela, surinam, guyana and bolivia.

virtually unheard of outside of the amazon region until the last ten years, the two most common foods currently making the rounds are the açaí berry, which is touted as the new 'miracle' fruit due to its high levels of antioxidants and the guarana fruit, which resembles the coffee bean in both size and percentage of caffeine.

both are found in an increasing number of products ranging from sport drinks and health food store products to 'unusual' ingredients of trendy drinks at hot spots around the world - there are still many more undiscovered foods from the amazons that are waiting to be experienced.  arrow-back      arrow-forward
