finnish cooking is known for combining traditional country and haute cuisine with contemporary continental style cuisine - similar to that practiced in the neighboring sweden, finnish cuisine is somewhat uniform within the country, although regional variants exist.

due to the country's geographical location in the far north of europe, there's a traditional reliance in products which can be preserved for long times, like potatoes, rye bread or preserved meat - naturally, this has changed with the development of food preservation and production technology, but the mark in the traditional dishes is still there.

the most common type of meat is pork, with the consumption of sausages being quite widespread, but there is also an important presence of beef and chicken - game meat is another part in this tradition and many dishes feature deer, hare or duck.   arrow-back      arrow-forward
