most mexicans would agree that mexican food is best in mexico and many dishes outside the country have been commercialized to a certain extent and are not neccessariuly authentic mexican - for instance, the use of yellow or cheddar cheese instead of queso blanco or queso fresco, to name a few.

there are a few very well known and popular mexican restaurants in rio, along ipanema, copacabana, and leblon that celebrate the wonderful gastronomy of the aztec giant, every 'cinco de mayo', which is may 5th in english.

connected via latin american roots, mexico has a number of historical links with brazil, most notably various waves of immigration, back and forth, over the last few centuries - most mexicans that have migrated to brazil, or to rio de janeiro, have moved to the country for professional reasons, in the hope of securing employment.
