at a glance

a magnet for people from all over the world, rio de janeiro is a truly multicultural city, boasting an eclectic mix of different ethnic groups that add to it's vibrancy and style - as the cultural melting pot brews in the city, so do the traditions that the different groups have brought with them.

one prominent group, within the city, is the polish community, who travelled to brazil from europe, and set up a sturdy base with approximately 850,000 to 1,900,000 poles throughout brazil - they proudly brought with them their unique cuisine, which can now be found in numerous places across rio.

polish food is renowned for being a hearty cuisine, which is heavily reliant on meats, fish or poultry, and bustling with big flavors and complex techniques - although a strongly individual style, much of the origins of the food can be traced to poland's neighbors, and to the jewish community in the country, before taking a polish makeover.  arrow-back      arrow-forward
