at a glance

located on the other side of the world to brazil, it may surprise some people that there is such a healthy population of poles, in brazil, but they first came to the country, in 1869, in the search of freedom and land, after much political turmoil and change in their native lands - a larger group came to brazil, just a couple of years later, in 1971, and began to spread throughout the country.

one of the first records of poles arriving in rio de janeiro itself, was in 1889, when a group of poles fled from russia, to the marvelous city - quickly adapting to the lands, and becoming successful throughout the county, it did not take long for the poles to imprint their own individual style into pockets of the city.

à polonesa specializes in polish dishes in the district of copacabana offering polish classics such as beef stroganoff, along with a beet soup, goulash, and fish with horseradish - also one of the few restaurants serving steak tartar and a great one at that.  ● more ●   arrow-back      arrow-forward
