it is said that thais developed their cooking style because of their water-borne living habits, meaning that fish, plants and herbs formed the base of their cooking - also, because many people practiced buddhism, the use of meat in big chunks was frowned on, so shredding the meat and decorating it with various herbs and spices is common.

wherever the influences of thai cuisine may have originated from, the resulting product has become clearly unique to the culture - thai food has become a favorite cuisine of people from all over the world, particularly in the western countries of great britain and the united states.

thais do not immigrate as much out of their country, but nevertheless, their cuisine has spread all over the globe - in brazil, southeast asian immigration in the 20th century was scarce at best, and most asian immigrants were actually from japan.

coming in waves, the first japanese immigrants were reported to get to brazil in 1908, followed by waves of immigrations during the second world war, and then again in the 1970's and 80's.  arrow-back      arrow-forward
