brazil has one of the largest japanese population outside the country of japan itself - migration began in the early 20th century, with many settling in larger metropolitans where finding a job or establishing a business was more accessible - japanese traditions, customs and cuisine were shared, but because of the language barrier, much of the immigrants would interact amongst themselves.

the trend of eating japanese sushi reached brazil in the second half of the 20th century, when american cuisine and gastronamic customs began to influence cultures internationally - travelers who wished to bring back the extraordinary idea food to their country were also part of this revolution - today there are a variety of establishments offering sushi, from the more traditional and authentic rolls, to the satisfying and unique creations.

sushi leblon is a very classy sushi restaurant with prices that reflect its food quality and reputation,  located in the affluent district of leblon - the restaurant is popular with much of rio's elite,  including stars of  much loved brazilian soap operas.        arrow-back      arrow-forward
