being one of the world's capitals for sports, cycling is a very popular activity in rio de janeiro with a great selection of cycle lanes, cycle tracks and a number of cycling events held throughout the year - in addition to the leisurely cycling options, there are a number of events ranging from grand tours to small amateur affairs. 

the most prestigious cycling event in rio, is, without doubt, the tour do rio, and features 120 athletes travelling an estimated 920 kilometers through the state of rio de janeiro - it is undeniable the biggest cycling event in latin america.

starting off in the tropical barra da tijuca neighborhood, the event pushes participants to the height of their endurance, lasting a grueling six days, with a number of challenges throughout the course -  the winner eventually rides to victory at the quinta da boa vista and is greeted with the celebrations of food and friends.
