at a glance

the mountain itself was deforested during the nineteenth century, and used as farmland, which is why the original tracks up the mountain were made. due to the exposure of the area, and the harsh weather conditions, reforestation has been difficult, so the area is still relatively bare.

once at the top, visitors have the option to undertake a spot of climbing, as pedra bonita has nine routes, of up to 155 meters. however, even if they just fancy a slice of relaxation after the climb, they won't be disappointed, as pedra bonita offers one of the most stunning views in rio, which includes the west and the south zones of the city, as well as tijuca forest and, of course, pedra da gávea. arrow-back     arrow-forward
