The Tijuca forest is a much sought after location for hikers and nature lovers, being one of the most famous trails in Rio and a much praised destiny of visitors and residents alike, seeking an escape from the city into the heart of nature without leaving the city itself.

Inside the forest there are three main trails among many others - the first one is the Trilha dos Estudantes, connecting the entrance of the park to the visitor's center is one the most popular, for being reportedly easy to navigate, completely signaled and  for not requiring strenuous effort, the second and third most popular trails are two circular trails, also completely signaled and filled with directional and interpretative signs, giving not only directions, but also insights on the forest, its history and surroundings.
