as the path meanders through the tijuca forest it passes waterfalls and streams as well as thick atlantic rainforest.

entrances to the park can be found on estrada do sumaré, rua almirante alexandrino, estrada dona castorina, estrada da vista chinesa, estrada redentor, and estrada da cascatinha. admission to the park is free and guests can arrange for guided tours, that include hiking up to the pico de tijuca.  

hiking is still one of the most practiced activities on the pico da tijuca, with a medium difficulty trail of 2,600 meters between the entrance and the stairs - but there are also mountain biking trails throughout the forest.
