at a glance

following a long stretch of the path there is another fork, the correct direction this time being on the right. the trail  then becomes steeper and more winding, just short of reaching the summit.

once at the 819 meter high summit there are views of the  northern slope of the serra da carioca, pedra bonita, pedra gávea, pico do grajaú, andaraí maior, pico da tijuca, tijuca mirim and other mountains of the forest.

the vegetation along this path has adapted to the characteristic soil, which is composed of small quartzite stones, a type of rock which appears only in some parts of rio de janeiro. along with the native fauna there are some introduced species, such as bamboo, cordyline, kiss-of-nun, jackfruit, mango, breadfruit, jabuticabeira and coffee.
