limited in the north by arpoador beach and in the south by the jardim de alah canal,  also marking the beginning of the leblon's beach, ipanema gained its name from the neighborhood in which it is located.  

the neighborhood construction was financed by the baron of ipanema, and the urbanization created by the end of the 19th century was thus named in his homage.
