choro (cry), also referred to as chorinho, is the result of a confluence of various music genres that resulted in a rhythm of its own as purely instrumental and a very sophisticated style of music - despite its name, it often has a fast and happy rhythm. 

born in rio, it is considered the first urban popular music typical of brazil as well as the first music genre to incorporate european and african elements in the new world.
