samba and bossa nova are amongst the most known genres outside of brazil, and usually the first thing that musically comes to mind when thinking of rio, but it is in fact pagode the most played genre in the marvelous city, seeing as it is the soundtrack to barbeques, city parties, and many events and gatherings.

born in the outskirts  of rio by afro-brazilians celebrating their freedom in  private festivities, once released from slavery - the happy rhythm eventually made its way to the city when a population of these afro-brazilians migrated to the favelas and embraced the genre.
