mpb, also known as música popular brasileira or popular brazilian music in english, is a term describing different popular genres, including but not limited to rock and pop, that are specifically made in brazil. this style of music was particularly favored by many young, university demonstrators in the 1960s, who were searching for a new sound with daring lyrics, less sophisticated than bossa nova and more trendy than samba - the military dictatorship and censorship conflicts contributed to the rise of mpb. |
