in from africa were kept in quarantine.
the sound of carriages behind the beach, and the
view of small fishermen boats near the shore create a magic
ambiance not normally associated with the beaches or the city of
rio de janeiro.
formerly called
praia de itanhangá,
this beach was renamed praia da moreninha as a tribute to a
famous book 'a moreninha' written by
joaquim manuel de macedo
and published in 1844.
