in the last few
years, as the economy of rio de janeiro grew strong, government
funds and new technologies have been aimed at restoring the
water of the
baía de guanabara
(guanabara
bay) to its former splendor.
Private and public institutions, as well as volunteer local
associations, have been working together to
implement wide scale cleaning efforts in an attempt to improve
water quality in the region.
while this may
still take a decade, some tangible results can already be seen -
continuous efforts to maintain the shores clean, and new
policies to limit or better process the waste discarded in the
bay generated great optimism.
