a large amount of sea algae leaves the
waters of the
guanabara bay a greenish hue - it also washes up
along the shore marking the sands amongst
litter.
while some locals use the water for fun, swimming is not recommended as this
part of the
guanabara bay is polluted.
at the center
of the beach,
a large pier was built in 1930, and
as part of the revitalization process in the area it was reopened in 1999 for fishermen to use.
