to the north the strip of sand gently fades away, eventually giving way to a built up quayside. at praia da bandeira there once was a boat used for art expositions that later sank - the sunken vessel is still partially visible on days of low tide. the beach affords wonderful views out to guanabana bay, and the vistas are especially pretty as evening falls due to the lights visible in são gonçalo and paquetá island.
