as this beach was important to the local residents, and people in the greater region, the government built a huge swimming pool where the beach used to be - the parque ambiental da praia de ramos.  

piscinão de ramos, as its is commonly referred to, is an environmental park and recreation area consisting of an artificial beach and pool of saltwater - and became one of rio de janeiro's most famous public spaces.

the site was created in the neighborhood of ramos in december 2001, under the government of anthony garotinho.
