not all guides or tourism offices in ipanema or copacabana are familiar with guides and organizations located in this area, thus often boat rides must be arranged in person at the shops facing praia barra de guaratiba, or directly on the sands of praia do canto.  several companies in the zona sul offer day tours to the adventure beaches, but for groups of 4 or more only.

for visitors pressed for time or not in the mood for hiking a few hours, going by boat makes it for a less exhausting experience and still offers close-up views of the ilha do frade (friar's island) and ilha rasa de guaratiba also called ilha do farol (lighthouse island), the west side islands facing the coastline.
