the promenade has a bicycle path, and is rich with kiosks, small exercise facilities, and a variety of schools teaching surfing, kite surfing, windsurfing, body boarding, volleyball, stand up paddle, and slack lining, among other sports.

some of the local schools include the surf school dropvertical and dada figueiredo at barra posto 6, and the kite surf school k08 at barra posto 6 - for foot-volley and beach volley the beach training school is located at barra posto 6, and the beach tennis school top beach tennis is based at barra posto 4.    

the hippest part of barra beach is the now famous praia do pepê, described in more detail separately.
