28th of July of 1992 was the date of foundation of the Alegria da Zona Sul samba school, born from the fusion of the blocos Alegria de Copacabana and Unidos do Cantagalo.

In 1993 the school succeeded in keeping its status of Samba school in the E group of Rio's carnival, and from there fought an uphill battle to get to the A group, feat that the school achieved for the first time in 2010.

The school's history, while recent, is filled with ups and downs and shows the willingness to continue spreading the joy of carnival.
