at a glance

in its history the samba school known as g. r. e. s. unidos de vila isabel (united from vila isabel) finds connections with another of the great brazilian hallmarks: soccer - it started off as team dedicated to that sport, back in 1945, and that's why the school colors are the blue and white, the colors of the now deceased soccer team.

in 1946 antónio fernandes de silveira, the then leader of the group, started to work on what would be first parade of the new organization, right in the next year.

the results weren't the best, both due to inexperience and the small size of the school - after a few setbacks in the following parades, they finally achieved the second place in the 1956's second division parade.  arrow-back      arrow-forward
