at a glance

many older groups which now take part on the big carnival celebration in rio de janeiro started their participation as simple street blocos.

one of the reasons for that being that back in the 20th century, and even more so before then, carnival festivities were not as organized as they are today - the groups also didn't have the same resources as they started to access in more recent times.

so, they simply used the basic costumes and musical instruments people could afford, parading on the streets to the delight of their neighbors - it was on these terms that the g. r. e. s. são clemente was born. arrow-back      arrow-forward
