at a glance

moved by the desire to create a samba school which could represent his neighborhood in the ever growing carnival celebrations, amaury joiró decided to gather around him a group of samba dancers in 1959.

the newly created group would be called g. r. e. s. imperatriz leopoldinense (leopoldinean empress), after the name of the general area in which the ramos neighborhood is located.

from early on this samba school would be driven to have their samba-plots to be based on historic and cultural themes, something which would help sculpt its presence on the parades. arrow-back      arrow-forward
