the parade of niterói, a municipality within the metropolitan area of rio de janeiro, is one of the most important and celebrated after Rio de janeiro city's carnival in the region. 

it was in this sideline parade that viradouro made most of its presentations - and it went on to win the regional championship eighteen times, one of the most successful careers in the history of the brazilian carnival.

due to this it was eventually decided that the school should partake in the main carnival events of rio de janeiro, where it started in 1987, in the fourth division, but a series of solid presentations granted the school a place in the elite special division already in 1991.
