Snorkelling and scuba-diving are popular activities around these islands (and companies often tend to provide excellent underwater photography opportunities to make sure the exhilarating experience is caught on film) - They are also popular spots for climbers, who enjoy magnificent views as they scramble up the rock faces. In 2010, the Natural Heritage of the Archipelago Cagarras Islands was formed, which aims to preserve the islands as an ecological safe-haven, limiting fishing and environmentally damaging forms of eco-tourism. Abounding in wildlife, fauna and beautiful views of the city, the Cagarras Islands are the cariocas' little paradise outside the bustle of the city. |
