The Lagoa de Marapendi (lake of Marapendi) is situated in barra da tijuca and is rich in scenic views of fauna, clear waters and an array of birds and wildlife - It is a place of great tranquillity and serenity, offering a wonderful opportunity for contemplation away from the stresses of the city.

The Marapendi Municipal Natural Park, which is entered from recreio, offers visitors an array of activities, including hiking, picnicking and frolicking in the playgrounds (for the younger voyagers) - Visitors can also enjoy a scenic and peaceful boat trip along the lake.

Many bring along their binoculars to catch sight of the many bird species that can be found gliding over the water or perching on nearby trees, such as herons, hawks and doves - Other inhabitants of the lake include crabs, fish, snakes, lizards, alligators and sloths.
