The Tijuca National Park is a wonderfully diverse green expanse located very close to the heart of the city.

What gives the park its unique and inspiring beauty is its topography in which the lush expanse of trees exist side by side with the steep, rocky surfaces. It is split into four sections: Floresta da Tijuca; Serra da Carioca; Pedra Bonita and Pedra da Gávea; and, Pretos Forros and Covanca.

The park contains within its parameters christ the redeemer as well as the 1021 metre Tijuca Peak - both remarkable feats of nature and human ingenuity, which lend themselves well to being captured on film. It is exhilarating to be climbing up the steep crevices and trails of the mountain, scrambling over branches and through trees, pausing at intervals to bathe under a waterfall or marvel at the exotic fauna, jungle vines, jutting rock-faces and array of wildlife.
