The park covers around 3.5% of the city's entire area and is home to 6 million inhabitants. It is currently the most visited National Park in Brazil, welcoming over 2 million people per year. This oasis of scenic beauty was admirably constructed by man in the fight against environmental devastation. The area that now constitutes the National Park used to be used for timber extraction and coffee production but a conservational project began in 1861 which called for the reforestation of the land, resulting in forest that continues to flourish today. The magnificent vistas of Tijuca Forest are beloved by people the world over, providing innumerable opportunities for visitors to connect with the natural world and experience a unique blend of landscapes. | arts | |||
