From the top, standing on the cobbled stones of the community, the exceptional vista materialises, exhibiting praia do flamengo to the left and praia vermelha to the right, as well as an outstanding and unique view of sugar loaf- That such scenic beauty and tranquillity lie so close to the bustle of the main city is one of Rio's great marvels and charms. Babylonia used to be a key military strategic point so, along the trail, there are still bunkers from the Second World War, remnants of the period when Brazil was under threat of Nazi submarine attacks - There are also older ruins on the ascent which are thought to originate from the period of colonization. The trail offers an enriching cocktail of history, cultural insight, botany and fauna, culminating in uniquely memorable views of the city. | arts | |||
