for good friday on friday afternoon a liturgy is held at the san sebastian cathedral, followed by a procession lead by the archbishop - while another procession is in copacabana, complete with drums, chants, and roman soldiers.

meanwhile, the passion of the christ is beautifully portrayed under the arcos da lapa (arches of lapa) with a greatly done and very dramatic theatrical presentation - the area where the arches are located, called lapa, is immensely popular among locals and visitors alike as the cultural and bohemian mecca of the city.      

the event happens across from the principal architectural attraction in lapa - the arcos de lapa, an impressive aqueduct that was constructed in the early eighteenth century and used to bring water down from the hills to the centro during the colonial period.
