The importance of each church is highlighted along with the artists and builders that constructed them, many of which are listed by the Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional, Brazil's national institute of historical and artistic heritage.

The book is published in portuguese and includes a parallel translation in English by Elvyn Marshall, with 260 color photos contributed by Bruno Veiga, André Nazareth and Ricardo Fasanello accompanying the text.
